Red Flags of Gross Motor Difficulties

Cannot sit independently or needs to lean against something for support

Is not traditionally crawling on their hands and knees with reciprocal coordinated leg and arm movements

Cannot pull themselves up to a stand

Does not roll a ball to an adult 

2 years

Is unable to take 2-3 steps without support

Is unable to walk and turn corners smoothly

Cannot climb up and down from furniture safely

Looses balance when picking up toys from the floor

Struggles to walk up and down stairs with support

3 years

Has difficulty climbing jungle gyms and ladders

Cannot pedal a tricycle

Is not using alternating feet when walking up and down the stairs

Has difficulty jumping and landing with two feet together

Is not able to catch a ball tossed to them

Does not walk with reciprocal arm swing

4 years

Cannot balance on one foot for 5 seconds

Cannot catch a ball that has been bounced to them

Cannot kick a ball forward with smooth leg motions

Cannot hop on one foot without loosing balance

Is unable to walk up the stairs while holding an object

Cannot catch a small ball using only one hand away from their body

Cannot coordinate a reciprocal skip

Cannot walk backwards using heel-to-toe walking

Cannot hang from a bar for 5 seconds 

6 years and older

Cannot jump rope consecutively with coordination

Slumps or is fidgety in a chair

Leans on things when standing

Falls or trips frequently

Does not like to participate in sports or physical activities

Is clumsy and tires easily

Holds their head up with their hands when sitting
